What is an instant removalist quote?

An instant removalist quote is a moving price estimate calculated online in seconds, from the details of your move: where you’re moving from and to, the size of your home and the access at each end. Instead of filling in a form and waiting for a removalist to call you back, you see your estimate on screen straight away.

Our instant quote uses the same pricing rules our team uses when it prices a move by hand: our hourly rates, the time it takes to load and unload a home of your size, the time stairs and lifts add, and Google’s real driving time between your two addresses. The result is an estimate based on how moves are actually priced, not a rough guess.

From waiting days to seconds: how moving quotes have changed

Getting a price for a move used to take a lot of time and patience. For decades, the only way to find out what a move would cost was to ring around removalists, often from a phone directory, and describe your home over the phone. For bigger moves, a removalist would visit your home to look at the furniture before giving a price, which meant booking a time and waiting for them to come.

When websites arrived, many removalists added online enquiry forms. That was easier than phoning, but it didn’t make the price any faster. You filled in the form, and then you waited, sometimes for days, for someone to call or email back. Quote comparison websites came next, letting you request several quotes at once. They saved some searching, but often meant your phone ringing with calls from several companies, each wanting to talk you through their price.

Online calculators were the next step, letting people estimate the volume of their furniture themselves. Today, instant quotes go further: they combine the size of your home, the access at each end and real driving time to show an estimate on screen in about a minute, with every part of the price explained.

Why people prefer instant moving quotes

People planning a move are usually juggling a lot at once: leases, settlements, packing, work and family. An instant quote fits around that. These are the reasons people choose it:

  • Speed. A price in about a minute, instead of waiting for a call back.
  • Any time of day. Get your estimate at 10pm on a Sunday, when no office is open.
  • Transparency. You see how the price is built, line by line, not just a total.
  • No pressure. Look at the estimate, think it over, and book only when you’re ready.
  • Easy budgeting. Know roughly what your move will cost early, while you’re still planning.
  • Easy comparison. Try different dates, home sizes or access options and see how the estimate changes.
  • Your details stay with us. Your enquiry comes straight to Quick ’n’ Slick, not to a list of other companies.

How your instant moving quote is calculated

  1. Loading and unloading time. Based on the size of your home, from a studio to a 5+ bedroom house, or on the cubic metres you’re moving. Stairs and lifts at each end add time, so they’re included rather than added on the day.
  2. Driving time. Google’s real driving time between the two addresses you enter.
  3. Hourly rate. $180 an hour for a small setup (up to 20 m³) or $195 for a large setup (up to 40 m³), with a 2-hour minimum and 15-minute increments after that. Saturdays are $210 and $230 an hour, and we’re closed on Sundays. Bigger moves can combine two trucks.
  4. Call-out fee. $100–$300, depending on your pickup and drop-off locations. We review every booking and confirm it with you.

Your estimate is shown as a range, from the lowest to the highest call-out fee, with every part of the calculation listed underneath.

What’s included in every instant moving quote

  • Two experienced movers and a fully equipped truck
  • Furniture blankets, straps and trolleys
  • Disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture
  • Public liability and goods in transit insurance (T&Cs apply)
  • GST

How accurate is an instant quote?

An instant quote is an estimate, and it’s as accurate as the details you give it. Removals in Melbourne are usually charged by the hour, so your final bill is based on the time your move actually takes, with a 2-hour minimum. Most of the difference between an estimate and the final bill comes from a few things:

What changes the final billHow to keep the estimate accurate
More furniture than expectedChoose the next home size up, or use the cubic metre calculator
Access that’s harder than describedPick the access option that honestly matches each address
Not being packed when the crew arrivesHave everything boxed and ready before moving day
Traffic on the dayAn early start avoids the worst of it

The better prepared you are, the quicker the move, and the lower the bill. Our guide to what removalists cost in Melbourne explains every part of the price.

Tips for the most accurate online quote

  • Pick the right home size. If your home is unusually full, choose the next size up, or use the cubic metre calculator for a precise volume.
  • Be honest about access. A third-floor walk-up takes longer than a ground-floor unit, and the quote should reflect it.
  • Use the full addresses. Exact addresses make the driving time accurate.
  • Choose your real date. Saturday rates differ from weekday rates, and the quote uses the right one.

Instant removalist quote FAQs

Quick answers to what people ask us before booking.

What is an instant removalist quote?

It’s a moving price estimate calculated online in seconds from your two addresses, the size of your home and the access at each end, so you don’t have to wait for a call back or an in-home visit.

Is the instant quote a real price?

It’s an estimate calculated with our real pricing: our hourly rates, loading times for your home size, stairs and lifts, and Google’s driving time between your addresses. Your final bill is based on the time the move actually takes, with a 2-hour minimum.

How long does the instant quote take?

About a minute. Enter your pickup and drop-off addresses, your home size and the access at each end, and your estimate appears on screen.

How accurate are instant moving quotes?

They’re as accurate as the details you enter. Choosing the right home size and honest access options, and being packed on the day, keeps your final bill close to the estimate.

Do I need to know the exact volume of my belongings?

No. Your home size is enough. For a more precise estimate, use the cubic metre calculator or the moving cost calculator to add your actual furniture.

Will my details be shared with other removalists?

No. Your enquiry comes straight to Quick ’n’ Slick Removals and isn’t passed on to other companies.

Can I lock in the price?

Confirming your booking locks in your date and our rates. Because moves are billed by the hour, the final bill is based on the time your move takes. If your move changes after you book, call us on 0402 134 815 and we’ll re-run the estimate.

How do I pay for my move?

Payment is due on completion of the move, by cash or credit card, as set out in our terms and conditions. Some card payments may incur a fee of up to 5%.
